How to make dosa

Crispy dosa in five steps

Stir the batterGive the batter a gentle stir. If it is thicker than pancake batter, stir in a splash of water.
Heat the panHeat a cast-iron tawa or non-stick pan on medium-high. A few drops of water should sizzle away.
Spread it thinPour a ladle of batter in the centre and spread it outward in quick circles with the back of the ladle.
Add oil or gheeDrizzle a little oil or ghee around the edge and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, until golden and crisp.
Fold and serveFold the dosa and serve hot with chutney and sambar.

Take out only what you need and keep the tub in the fridge. The batter gets a little tangier each day.

HomeStyle Foods makes dosa batter the way it is made at home: rice and urad dal, soaked, freshly ground and left to ferment naturally.

We make it in small batches in a licensed commercial kitchen in Brampton, with no preservatives, and deliver it every Saturday across Brampton and Mississauga. For Diwali and Lohri we also make panjiri, packed in gift boxes.

How much does HomeStyle dosa batter cost?

A 1 kg tub is $8 and a 2 kg tub is $15. Delivery is free on orders over $35, otherwise $5. Pickup is free.

How long does fresh dosa batter keep?

Keep it refrigerated and use it by the date on the tub. The batter keeps fermenting slowly, so it turns a little tangier each day.

Which size should I get?

The 1 kg tub suits a couple or a small family for a few breakfasts. The 2 kg tub is better value for bigger families, and it is what Batter Club members get each week.

Is the batter vegan or gluten-free?

The recipe is plant-based, with no dairy or eggs. There is no wheat in the recipe, but it is made in a kitchen that also handles wheat, so we do not label it gluten-free.

How do I pay?

By card at checkout, in one secure payment through Stripe. Ordering on WhatsApp instead? We will send you a payment link.

What is the Batter Club?

A weekly subscription: 2 kg of fresh dosa batter every week for $15, with free Saturday delivery. Skip a week or cancel anytime.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Yes, until Wednesday at 8 pm. After that your batter is already being made. If anything is wrong with your order, tell us within 24 hours and we will make it right.

Do you supply restaurants and caterers?

Yes. We deliver bulk dosa batter to restaurants, caterers and grocers in Brampton and Mississauga. Call or WhatsApp us for a wholesale quote.

Do you sell panjiri?

Yes, as seasonal gift boxes for Diwali and Lohri. Diwali orders close Monday, November 2; Lohri orders close Friday, January 8.
